Single-Family Home in Queens
Honoring Heritage, Embracing Modern Living
Details
The client approached 2MO with the goal of preserving family history and honoring the grandparents' legacy while adapting the home for modern living and hosting extended family gatherings.
The scope included a major structural change on the first floor, removing partition walls to create a seamless, open-concept kitchen and living area. Upstairs, ceilings were raised and structural adjustments made to install skylights that flood the staircase and bathroom with natural light. A bathroom was added in the basement, while hardwood flooring and refinished staircases unified the interior. On the exterior, a terrace was constructed above the extended and refinished front porch, enhancing both the home's charm and usability. Over the course of a year, 2MO reimagined the house entirely.
The project resulted in a home that blends its original heritage with modern convenience. The open-concept layout and abundant natural light make the interior feel spacious and welcoming. The basement bathroom and exterior terrace addressed practical limitations and increased the home's functionality and comfort.
The transformation demonstrates how careful design planning and precise execution can reinforce a structure to support open spaces and raised ceilings.
