The client had bought a townhouse and was frustrated with the iconic Greek column in the living room. They sought a design that would transform the staircase of the home.

This design-build scope in Ridgewood focused on merging structure and style to create a two-family residence defined by clean, modern lines, with the staircase as the artistic centerpiece.

The client wanted to remove the Greek column, however, 2MO Studio identified that the beam and column provided essential structural support, and removing it would drive significant costs. The client shared their mood board for the staircase and column, and in response, 2MO Designer proposed a revamped staircase design and a creative element at the top of the column, transforming it into an intentional feature. New subflooring was installed and the floor was leveled. The highlight was the installation of an open staircase, supported directly by the brick wall and finished with elegant wood railings. The layout was refreshed to improve flow, a new foyer was designed, and valuable basement storage was created, complete with a framed double swing door.

2MO Studio executed extensive structural and aesthetic work. The result is a modern home transformation that delights the family and was completed prior to welcoming their newborn. The residence flows beautifully, anchored by the unique staircase, which serves as both a functional feature and a striking design statement. The leveled floors, added storage, and artistic column ensures the home maintains a cohesive, polished, functional and high-end character.
